What are periodic & annual medicals?

Periodic and annual medicals are scheduled health assessments for employees in safety-sensitive or regulated roles. They help confirm that workers remain medically fit to safely perform their duties over time.

What’s included?

Depending on role requirements, assessments may include:

• Physical examination and vital signs
• Medical questionnaire covering history, symptoms, and medications
• Vision, hearing (audiometry) and lung function (spirometry) testing
• Laboratory testing, urinalysis and ECG, where required
• Mental health screening and cognitive functioning, where appropriate

Where results fall outside expected ranges, findings are reviewed in clinical context. Recommendations may include follow-up testing, temporary restrictions, or reassessment timelines.

How does it work?

We begin with a baseline assessment at pre-employment to establish an employee’s current health status. Follow-up assessments are then completed at defined intervals based on role requirements, regulatory standards, and risk level.

Results are reviewed over time to identify changes in health status and support early intervention where needed. This helps maintain ongoing workforce safety, continued fitness for occupational duties, and consistency in decision-making.

What will I receive?

Following each assessment, you will receive a clear fitness determination, including:

• Fitness-for-work status
• Any recommended restrictions
• Clinical guidance, where applicable

Where follow-up is required, we provide defined reassessment timelines and role-specific clearance recommendations.

We can also provide aggregate reporting to help identify trends and support workforce health planning over time.
