Karen Smith
About
Karen has been a practicing clinical and forensic psychologist for over 20 years. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology and Criminology) and then completed post-graduate work at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Karen has worked in many different areas including Forensics and Mental Health and Addictions. She has spent 10 years in her current role working with a diverse population. She also works extensively with the Veteran population, as well as, injured workers, clients who have mental health and addiction issues, pain management difficulties, trauma and those diagnosed with personality disorders. Her preferred treatment modality is Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, which affords clients the opportunity to gain coping skills that aid in being able to manage life in a healthy manner. She also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Mindfulness. Karen has gained extensive knowledge working as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
Outside of the workplace, Karen enjoys self-care, reading, movie and trivia nights, going to the gym and frequent travel.
