Rita Tunney

Physiotherapist

About

Rita has over 30 years experience as a physiotherapist with a strong background in orthopedic and manual therapy. She has taken numerous acupuncture courses and is certified with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI). In 2011, Rita was introduced to the work from John F. Barnes and his work. She loves John’s quote, “find the pain, look elsewhere for the cause!

She is an Advanced level John F. Barnes Myofascial Release therapist and she uses this therapy across all areas of her practice. Rita has taken Craniosacral Therapy training through the Upledger Institute and was introduced to the work from Suzanne Scurlock-Durana. She started taking courses with Suzanne’s Healing From the Core curriculum in 2012 and she now feels that the combination of Suzanne’s work with the John F. Barnes work is her main approach when treating.

Rita has a special interest in chronic pain and put great emphasis on educating the client. She is drawn to the emotional release aspect in chronic pain because she feels that this is often not addressed fully in the chronic pain patient (Bessel van der Kolk/Peter Levine’s work).
